Adding debts
Debts are the meat of the program. Fill in anyone you owe money to, how much, what sort of interest they're charging, and so on. Debtinator will help make it all right.
Of course, debts aren't always that simple, sometimes they're downright complicated. Balance transfers, adjustable interest rates, minimum rates that vary over time, all sorts of details. Fortunately, you can record that information as well. Just click on the gear button in the lower left (next to the add and remove buttons) and choose "use complex view" and you can enter all of the additional information.
To return to the simple view, click on the gear again and choose "use simple view" - but note: if your debt actually is complex (multiple line items or introductory interest rates, or whatever), then you won't be allowed to switch back to the simple view.
To add debts:
- Click on the debts tool button (the dollar bill behind the hourglass (time is ticking!)).
- Click the large '+' in the lower left.
- Fill in the debt's information.
To store an adjustable rate debt:
- Select the debt
- Click on the complex view button.
- Choose the Rates tab.
- Check the ends checkbox and fill in the end date of the current APR.
- Click the + button in the lower left of the rates view.
- Add the new APR and have it start immediately after the last one ended.
